Foundation Initiatives

House Academic Spaces

The Educational Foundation started investing in the academic infrastructure of the house starting in 2012. Since then, it has helped to renovate the memorial library with a video conferencing system for alumni speakers, built new dining and learning areas in the basement Learning Commons, and modernized the house internet.

Career & Mentoring

One of the most frequent requests from undergraduates when they speak to alumni is for assistance with career planning, internships, mentorships, and job placement. They also want advice from alumni regarding graduate school and/or post graduate degrees. Mu Chapter has established a series of programs for our undergraduates and alumni to take advantage of.

Scholarships, Academics, and Awards

The Foundation is an important source of financial assistance to undergraduate brothers while also promoting leadership and community service. The Foundation offers two main scholarships.

The Greek Affordability Fund is granted to undergrads with financial need and who have shown a commitment to leadership in Mu Chapter, Cornell, and the Ithaca community. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $65,000 in GAF grants.

The David Harrop Memorial Scholarship recognizes the rising senior who has demonstrated academic achievement, leadership within Mu Chapter, and commitment to the greater Cornell community.

Previous Initiative: College Mentors for Kids (2013-2019)

College Mentors for Kids connects kids to college students through weekly, on-campus activities that inspire growth, confidence, and enable brighter futures. The Sigma Pi Educational Foundation provided a grant to charter the College Mentors chapter in 2013, and the Pi house stayed heavily involved through 2019 by providing and recruiting mentors.
